*Participant must be 15 years or older by last day of class.

Participants who successfully complete this course will receive certifications in
Shallow Water Lifeguarding w/ CPR/AED & First Aid.

***ATTENDANCE AT Pre-Requisite Skill testing AND at all 4 class dates IS REQUIRED.

Pre-Course Skill Test will be on the first Friday of the class at 4:00pm

Class dates upon successful completion of the Pre-Course Skill test will be the continuation of Fridays session ending at 9pm and the remaining Sundays from 6:00am - 2:00pm

The pre-requisites for the Lifeguard Training class are:
1) Swim continuously 75 yards freestyle (NO STOPPING), tread water 2 minutes, legs only, then continue swimming another 75 yards (NO STOPPING). Using freestyle or breaststroke, showing ability to maintain breath control.
3) Complete a timed swim and brick retrieval at a depth of 5 feet

If the skills are not successfully completed at the start of the course, participant will not be allowed to continue with the class.

***Refunds will NOT be given to participants who do not successfully complete the Pre-Course Skills.

Possible employment opportunity with Macomb Township Parks & Recreation Department upon successful completion of course.

LEVEL 1 - Introduction to Water Skills
Participants will participate in activities which allow them to feel comfortable in the water and enjoy water safely. Students will learn elementary aquatic skills such as breath control, underwater swimming, buoyancy, swimming on front/back and personal water safety.
(Prerequisite = Participation in Swim Test).

To complete Level 1, students must demonstrate the following skills independently, confidently & consistently.
Warm up with Bubbles/Bobs/Monkeys/Kicks, end with Jumps
1. 5 continuous bobs – fully submerged showing bubbles
2. Bird Arms & Legs – 5 yards – Superman Glide to wall 2 yards
3. Front Starfish float, fast baby kicks, big scoops, face in water – 5 yards w/at least one independent breath – Superman Glide to wall 2 yards
4. Back Starfish float, fast baby kicks, big backward scoops – 5 yards – Superman Glide to wall 2 yards
5. Jump into pool tread 3 seconds & recover to wall unassisted

*Classes are 45 minutes.
*There will be no make-up classes or refunds for classes that participants are unable to attend.
*SPECIAL NOTE - Participants may be registered for only ONE section of swim lessons at a time. Additional enrollments will be cancelled, and credit will be placed on account for cancelled enrollment. Refunds will not be issued.

Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Students explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg action on the front and back. This lays the foundation for future strokes such as freestyle, backstroke and butterfly.
(Prerequisite = A Learn-To-Swim Level 1 certificate or demonstrated competency of Level 1 skills through a Swim Test)

To complete Level 2, students must demonstrate the following skills independently, confidently & consistently.
1. 10 bobs→Tread(30 seconds)→Bird Arms & Legs 15 yds
2. Kicks w/boards (front, back, bird)
3. Freestyle – 15 yds – rotary breathing
4. Backstroke – 15 yds – Stroke count with flags
5. Butterfly – 15 yds
6. Ring Retrieval – 3-foot depth
